Recovery Skills Specialist
Position Description
I. INTRODUCTION:
The Recovery Skills Specialist (RSS) is responsible for supporting the Hale Ulu Pono Program (HUP) of Steadfast Housing Development Corporation (SHDC).
The RSS will work collaboratively with HUP team members and community case managers to develop and provide a variety of support services to ÒEligible ConsumersÓ defined as adult, seriously and persistently mentally ill persons who are dwelling in units under the management jurisdiction of Steadfast Housing Development CorporationÕs Hale Ulu Pono Program.
HUP services, provided in compliance with an Eligible ConsumerÕs Individualized Recovery Service Plan (RSP), include but are not limited to:
ив Housing assessments,
ив Case management,
ив Life skills training,
ив Support services,
ив Social activities, and
ив Adaptive skills teaching necessary for an Eligible Consumer to maintain and retain tenancy.
A substantial amount of time is spent meeting with and assisting Eligible Consumers. Working hours will be flexible including on-call availability.
This position reports directly to the Hale Ulu Pono Program Manager and is under the general direction of the Mental Health Services Director.
1. Provides intervention, mediation and adaptive skills training to Eligible Consumers that include but are not limited to:
ив Conflict resolution.
ив Interpersonal relationship counseling.
ив Good neighbor/tenant skills training.
ив Identifies and provides emergency crisis services as necessary; responds according to accepted crisis intervention methods and techniques; and coordinates other services as appropriate.
1. Provides Life skills training services individually and in-group training modules that include but are not limited to:
ив Money management
ив Budget/shopping
ив Health and Safety
ив Interpersonal relationships
1. In collaboration with Eligible Consumers and the RSS integrates and monitors the RSP goals and objectives which focus on Consumers strengths, skills/abilities; preferences/choices; potential capabilities, functional levels (past and present) attitudes and behaviors to provide the type, intensity and frequency of supports needed to maximize Consumers potential.
2. Maintain safety, security and confidentiality of Eligible Consumers.
3. Attend HUP team meetings and other meetings as required or assigned.
1. Provides, schedules and coordinates support services that include but are not limited to:
ив Prepare rooms for new residents.
ив Launder used linens, towels, bath mats etc.
ив Inventories and requisitions new/replacement room furnishings and kitchen equipment/utensils.
ив Prepare curriculum handouts for the following day.
ив Maintain SHDC forms (keep file drawer filled and organized).
ив Set-up activity rooms on the second and third floor.
ив Create posters, flyers etc. for social activities/HUP events.
ив Patrol interior/exterior of building and grounds.
ив Monitor curfew and smoking area.
ив Transport Eligible Consumers in SHDC van to/from the bus transit station.
D. Staff Development and Training. Participate and attend:
1. Public education programs,
2. AMHD Private training sessions, and in-house SHDC trainings.
A. Associates degree from an accredited university or college preferably in the social sciences or human services field.
B. One (1) year experience in the direct delivery of life skills training.
C. Valid Hawaii State drivers license required. Privately owned automobile with current auto insurance and safety check, and a clean driving record.
D. Available to work flexible/adjustable hours to provide on-call support and response to after hourÕs concerns and emergencies.
E. CPR and First Aid (current) qualification certificates. (If none, obtaining these certifications shall be completed within the first two (2) months of employment).
A. Ability to work within a Òself-directedÓ setting.
B. Effective prioritization skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks at a time
C. Ability to document and record daily activities.
D. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook Email.
E. Ability to work as a team player and communicate effectively with Eligible Consumers and their families, direct supervisor, co-workers and people of diverse cultures and backgrounds within and outside the mental health community.

A. Up to several hours per day traveling to various locations by SHDC van.
B. Climbing up and down stairs of facility.

F. Relating to people in a friendly and professional manner, performing tasks with consideration to each individualÕs abilities and needs.
G. Willingness to work as part of a team; assisting co-workers in other areas as needed or required.
H. Working under established policies and procedures.
I. Sitting for periods of up to thirty minutes at a time.
J. Walking and standing for brief periods of time.
K. May require lifting and carrying up to ten pounds at a time for short distances.
L. Must understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and
M. Requires oral and written communication with supervisor, co-workers, and others.
